Rapéh (pronounced ha-peh) is a sacred shamanic snuff made from powdered Amazonian tobacco — Nicotiana rustica, also called Mapacho — blended with medicinal plants, ashes, and tree barks. It has been used for thousands of years by Indigenous tribes across the Amazon Basin, especially in Brazil, Peru, and Colombia, for grounding, cleansing, healing, and spiritual connection.

Rapéh is considered a master plant teacher and is treated with great respect by those who carry its lineage. While non-psychedelic in nature, its effects are profound and deeply transformative when used with clear intention in a ceremonial context.

Rapéh is blown into the nostrils using a special pipe — either a self-applicator, called a kuripe, or a tepi, used by a facilitator. The application is brief but potent, and may bring light pressure, warmth, purging through tears or mucus, or a gentle altered state of awareness.

The spirit of Rapéh works quickly and intuitively, going exactly where it is needed. Most people experience a sense of calm, clarity, and groundedness within minutes.

It is not about escaping discomfort. It is about creating space to sit with what is present, and to move it through with grace.

Rapéh is not a recreational substance. It is a sacred medicine that carries the wisdom of the forest and the prayers of generations, and it asks to be approached with humility, intention, and reverence. Before each session it is customary to set a clear intention, enter a space of prayer or meditation, and allow time afterward for reflection and integration.

A note on care: Rapéh is not psychedelic, but it can be very moving emotionally and energetically. It is not addictive and is used ceremonially, never habitually. The tobacco is stronger than commercial tobacco and is used in small, sacred doses. Those with sensitivities or cardiovascular conditions, and those who are pregnant, should speak with a facilitator before use.
